Bob Saget: June 20, 2011

On June 20, Bob Saget of Full House (and more) fame, completed an interview with RhodeIslandComedy.com in advance of his appearance at the Newport Summer Comedy Series on July 9. When asked, he had this advice for new comics:

Use your original voice. Don’t cop to other people’s styles or obviously their jokes. Just do it as much as you can, and write. People who want to do this need to put in the work and understand and have that special relationship with an audience. It’s universal for a performer, to have that relationship with an audience. They pay to come see you, so you feel like they made the first move of trust, now you want to let them into what it is you want to share with them to entertain them. And when it works, which it’s supposed to, it’s a really special thing.”
