Derek Furtado

Congratulations to Derek. He’s RhodeIslandComedy.com’s Featured Comedian of the Month for July, 2011 after wracking up the most page hits through the end of June. Check out his Ten Questions interview.

Hometown: Dighton, MA

Bio: On January 7, 1983 Derek was not only born, but he was born into an opportunity.  The 1980’s were arguably the Golden Years for stand-up comedy, launching the stars that would go on to dominate the 90’s.  It was comedians such as Chris Rock, Jim Carey, and Jerry Seinfeld that influenced the humorous persona you see today.

It was Derek’s ability to make people laugh, that helped him adapt to the life of a military brat, eventually settling in Massachusetts where he began an official career in stand-up comedy.

When Derek first walked on stage, the audience could only say one thing, “Look at this ass**le!”  But from the very first joke to the end of his set, like many audiences since, he won them over.

Sporting a movie star smile and devilish charm, Derek captivates the audience with not only his comedy, but his interaction with the crowd.  With his material ranging from his sexual escapades to being assaulted by a senior citizen outside of a bingo parking lot, Derek has a way of appealing to all audiences.

With stops in such acclaimed clubs as Catch a Rising star, The Comedy Studio and the Comedy Connection, he has quickly made his presence known throughout New England comedy.  With such accomplishments under his belt, he has begun to make his presence felt in New York, already performing at the Gotham and Broadway comedy clubs!

Needless to say, as much as he has accomplished in such a short time, the sky is the limit for this young and talented star!
